Wouldn't that show that was going for awhile, Duck Dynasty be in that thread of "fake" reality" tv shows?  I mean some of the "reality" Tv shows you can watch and they don't typically make you just tilt your head at whatever the producers are trying to accomplish with their scripts and others are just down right hilarious when you get stuck watching them like the train wreck they are (like Jersey shore) and you find yourself watching it out of a morbid curiosity.

It's of my understanding that reality shows are the fav thing for most producers because they don't have to hire writers, and other professionals they'd normally hire for ''non reality'' projects. In my opinion most ''reality'' show nowdays are so shameless, I mean, it's more than obvious they are fake and not real at all, yet the producers do nothing to convince us it isn't so!   I often feel the producers think we are stupid!  Hence I try to avoid ''reality'' TV.

In my opinion it is the new culture of famous for being famous. You can be as dreadful and as talentless and as awful as you want to be, but you can still be a household name because you are famous for being famous.

It's true. Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian are household names because they had sex and filmed it. The entire Kardashian family is famous and rich because Kim Kardashian had a leaked sex tape.

I wonder if Khloe and Kourtney ever say "Thanks ,sis for making us rich and famous by having sex on video." They don't even seem to feel bad about it, even though Kris Jenner is basically a madam.

Terrible parenting right there, tat Kris Jenner should be ashamed of herself, she is basically a pimp.  I feel kinda sorry for her youngest daughters, kinda.  If I were Kim I'd feel so ashamed, I mean, becoming famous just because she had sex, filmed it and then leaked it can't be good at all.  I don't want to imagine what the classmates of North will tell her if they truly want to tease her.  They don't even have a good show, it's so boring and fake!

It's not something that I would broadcast to the world but back when it was on the air I would watch Tila Tequila. I'm not sure why. I guess it was just something different to watch. Then I watched the Italian guy's spinoff because it disappointed me that he was leaving Tila Tequila. Again I'm not sure why, the more I watched him the more I realized he was an absolute pansy. I guess the fact that he was Italian made him appealing to me.

Nowadays I don't care to watch reality shows. I liked Married to Jonas but that was because I am biased. The X Factor USA was appealing to me but it's stupid that some of it is staged. What they did to the gay guy in season 2 was terrible. The only one I like now is The Voice which a huge majority of it is real.

I am not a fan of hers or anything and I agree that the way she became famous was just wrong, but I kind of disagree on her not building anything solid. She doesn't have an actual talent or skill that I know of, but she was been able to use her status to build some things that are pretty solid. She has the store with  her sisters, the clothing line, the game, her jewelry line. There are a lot of people that feel they don't have talent or skills or don't know what to do and get kind of stuck moving forward, but this chick basically said I have no talent or skills so, let me get some fame and build from there.

This is true. Kim Kardashian is actually very smart. It may have started out with the sex tape but she is a businesswoman and knows how to market herself. I wish I knew how to do that.

I like watching reality shows, however I have to laugh at how fake they are at times. Some perfect examples are Lizard Lick Towing, Operation Repo, and Hardcore Pawn. It's funny seeing how the customers throw a hissy fit when they don't ge their way. Also, it funny how in the earlier seasons all the employees were getting along, but now in just about every episode they're fighting.

I'm getting sick of shows that have "pawn" as a pun for "porn". At first when I saw Pawn Stars ,I thought "What a clever name." Then there was Hardcore Pawn and I said "Okay ,another pun based on porn."  But now there's another show called Pawnography. It's enough already. I'm tired of it. What next? Kiddie Pawn? Asian Pawn? Lesbian Pawn? Enough with the porn puns!

Is it just me or did Kylie Jenner get some serious plastic surgery? All of the Kardashians have gone under the knife. Why doesn't child services investigate this? She is clearly under 18.

It's about as real as TV wrestling is. I don't much care for either one. I watched that bachelor show for a bit, but I didn't like seeing the peole crying and heartbroken. One lady they left on the street all dressed up in a wedding dress (but I think that was a different show "marry my dad" or something). How humiliating. I thought that was terrible. I watch some reality stuff, but it's not my favorite genre.

Zyni, I like the comparison you made with reality TV and wrestling and like you I don't care much for many of them. Naturally, I will run into one while flipping through the channels sometimes but it's not something I am going to rush home to unless it's a singing competition or something that seems real for the most part. The suggestion of many that some of the singing competitions might be rigged doesn't sit well with me though.

There are some things about them that are still real though. When you can get the heavyweights from Pawn Stars to shed loads of pounds. The same with the Biggest Loser. So at the end of the day there is something a little real about a predominantly "unreal" genre of television.

I think Kylie Jenner did get some work done but her sister Kendall is a beautiful, successful fashion model who's in demand so that probably makes Kylie feel like the "ugly" sister and she's trying to compete. It's sad because I think they're both beautiful.

I have to disagree with you here a business woman she is not ! Her mommy is a true pimp and does all of Kims thinking for her. Kriss knows that Kim is that famlys best product and is not afraid to seel her to the highest bidder. Kim did not build the store it was her sisters brain child that started way before the sex tape fame. The game was developed by someone else and they paid her to use her voice the concept was not hers.  The clothing line and jewlery are designed by other people  none of them even wear their own product. Mothers are complaing about the risque fashion line for children. Kim even admitted on the show that a fashion house in the Phillipines had come up with a lingerie line that the wanted her to put her name on for a piece of the profit. I wonder without the show how much they would rake in from their lines do people buy their things becouse they like themor becaue they want to live thier lif style? Without the show could the Kardashian brand contiue to keep up?

Some of these shows seem genuinely real while others seem scripted. Some of the Master Chef shows really seem scripted.

We all have the late 90's to thank for the birth of reality shows. If we were to cut all the stuff that was scripted, all that would be left would be dance shows. Also, MAYBE some cooking shows. Master Chef Junior Edition is not one of them. After finding out that wasn't real, I just was brokenhearted. :( I loved the idea that kids were cooking and learning in the kitchen.

Absolutely agree with you. It is not real. Some may be more real than others, but it is scripted. The only reason so many networks have reality shows is that it is way cheaper than hiring professional actors, writers, directors, and producers. I like these shows, but "Pawn Stars" and "American Pickers" are extremely fake. They expect people to believe people bring $100,000 cars to sell at a pawn shop? Are we suppose to believe that Mike and Frank are rolling up on someone's property with a camera crew, and the owners don't question, or even look at the camera? Yeah. It's mostly fake.

I agree that they really aren't that "real".  It seems like a lot of the drama is done in post production.  I've recently started watching Ink Master on Spike and the "reality" we see is all the contestants calling each other names and wanting to fight.  There's no way that these people spend 100% of their time, when they're not working on their tasks, being this angry and hateful.  By contrast, there are other shows where they show the contestants really getting along and making friends.  Again, throw random people together for any length of time and it's not all going to be rainbows and puppy dogs.  The post production teams figure out what their target audience wants to see, and they edit the content to appeal to that market.  For me personally, I like the shows where people are civil and get along.  One where they do something positive and creative, like Project Runway, Face Off, Biggest Loser, The Amazing Race.  I just can't take the hateful, catty ones like Survivor or trashy ones like Real Housewives.

I do believe she has had plastic surgery, I mean, just look at those lips!  She definitely didn't have those before, and no, I don't believe she is using some make up trick to make her lips look thicker, just like some people claim.  As for child services? My guess is they don't step in because of the fame and wealth of that family, if it was an ''average'' family I'm sure child services would be after them.

This will probably be a very unpopular opinion, but I am not a huge fan of reality TV because none of it is truly real. It may not be scripted but the players and the results are manipulated in such a way that they might as well be. Take Celebrity Apprentice for instance, I don't think any of those ladies is really that catty in real life. They are being pitted against each other in strenuous circumstances and it comes out on camera. How "real" do you think it is?

You are not the only one.  I worked on a reality TV show.  It is not 100% real.  What they do is they create scenarios and the people react to it.  If it was real, there would be no scenarios involved.  The players are paid to play a part.  They are given a persona to follow and that is the persona they portray when reacting to the situations presented.

Well, anyone who thinks the WWE is reality is in for a rude awakening.  Those involved in the show have admited that much of the drama that goes on between the matches is all scripted stuff, big surprise right?  Anyway, that doesn't take away from the danger involved, everyone who works in the WWE are trained at stunt work and do risk their lives that has been proven unfortunately in the past with tragic accidents.

As for Bravo and their Real Housewives as I said some women who have left the franchise have admitted that Bravo has set things up in the hope that drama would occur due to women being at odds with each other but ending up in the same place.  As for other reality shows, if the Bachelor franchise is any indicator these contestants are real people but they go through a screening process.  No doubt the shows are looking for types they feel could add more drama to the show.  In the case of the Bachelor apparently they are looking for these types of crazy dramatic types.  Survivor they look for the good types along with the back stabbing types, we always seem to get these on each instlallment notice that.  The same with the Amazing Race and Big Brother, so yes these are reality but these are shows that go about wanting those types who can add the drama and incidents to grab ratings.

Depends on the show, really. Obviously some shows are painfully scripted/heavily edited to create "storylines", the Bachelor creator even admitted it! YET PEOPLE STILL THINK IT'S ALL REAL?!?! There are other shows which I think are more *real* like The Amazing Race or maybe Big Brother or the Top Chef franchise, but they're still edited though, even if they aren't scripted at all

What you mean that it wasn't real? :(  Please explain yourself a bit more! I was just starting to get into that show myself, it looked like such a fun TV show to watch when there was nothing else worth watching on TV!  Don't tell me none of those kids knew how to cook or that someone else cooked for them???  I'd be very disappointed if that was the case.  I thought it was so funny Ramsey was so kind to those kids, lol.
